Cost of Running a Printful Shop

That’s it! That is all the exciting things I have coming out this month, and I hope to “see” you in one of the trainings!

As we went over the different integrations previously, we learned the different options Printful can automate, which platforms have fees, and which options needed a little bit of work before they are ready to go.

So keeping that in mind, we want to break down the cost of a t-shirt across platforms including shipping fees, transaction fees, and what your profit may look like. Kicking off, let’s start with Shopify.

SHOPIFY & PRINTFUL COSTS

Cost of subscription: $29 for basic Shopify

Product: Unisex Bella and Canvas 3001 premium t-shirt for $12.95

Shipping: Flat rate of $3.99

Credit card rate: 2.9% + 30¢

12.95 + 3.99 -(2.9% + 30¢)= your profit

You would want to raise the price of the t-shirt to where you will come out with a profit instead of breaking even or below. Try out the profit calculator.

With t-shirts at $15.00, you will need to sell about 9 shirts a month to cover just your monthly fee with a small profit margin.

Etsy & Printful Costs

Cost of subscription: $0

Product: Unisex Bella and Canvas 3001 premium t-shirt for $12.95

Shipping: Flat rate of $3.99

Payment rate: 5%

$12.95 + 3.99 -$2.77= Your Profit

Etsy is cheaper with no monthly fees plus you only pay when you make a sale or it’s time to renew your listing which is 20¢ every four months. With a $25 shirt, you are looking at about $13.27 on profit.

Most website platforms have monthly fees starting around $23, and charge a transaction fee, so double-check to not have an extra fee such as with Squarespace website on the “basic” plan.

SQUARESPACE & PRINTFUL COSTS

Cost of subscription: $23 for basic Squarespace

Product: Unisex Bella and Canvas 3001 premium t-shirt for $12.95

Shipping: Flat rate of $3.99

Credit card rate: (2.9% + 30¢) + 3% transaction fee

12.95 + 3.99 -(2.9% + 30¢) – 3%= Your Profit

You have two different fees: one for the platform Squarespace and the other for credit card processing through Stripe or PayPal. Most times, if you move to a higher plan, you can lower or remove your website transaction fee.

That’s a quick breakdown on how much you can expect to spend on your Printful shop expenses, let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
